Restore Win* password

An old idea that probably no longer works today. In this sense, like Win*

The Idea is to change the button “erleichterte Bedienung” on the Login Display to run cmd.exe. Now you can change the win* user password.

• boot knoppix
• become superuser : sudo su
• mount win* : mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
• cd /mnt/Windows/System32
• save Utilman.exe : cp Utilman.exe Utilman-save.exe
• cp cmd.exe Utilman.exe
• reboot to win*

A click on the button “erleichterte Bedienung” starts cmd.exe:

• list all users : net user
• change password to aaa : net user “the username with white spaces” aaa

• test login

Restore saved Utilman.exe:

• reboot knoppix
• become superuser : sudo su
• mount win* : mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
• cd /mnt/Windows/System32
• mv Utilman-save.exe Utilman.exe
